An Investor’s Guide to SEIS

This free guide demonstrates how you can benefit from investing in early-stage startups and take advantage of the generous tax reliefs on offer.

Why we created the SEIS Investors Guide

The use of the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) as an Investment asset and Tax relief is often overlooked by investors. With many SEIS Managers demonstrating that they can deliver attractive returns from SEIS investment, as well as the range of tax benefits that they offer. We believe it is an attractive and under-used option for investors.

SEIS Investment and Tax benefits in practice

The Income Tax relief offered by SEIS is 50%, the most generous tax relief offered by the government (EIS offers 30%). There is also loss relief at half your marginal rate of tax, should the company fail. For a 45% taxpayer, this is a further 22.5% of tax relief, so that effectively 72.5% is underwritten from the outset, meaning that the amount at risk is just 27.5% of your investment. This means that it doesn’t take many successful companies in a SEIS portfolio to make it a profitable investment.
